For me, a margarita is the perfect drink. Well, that is a perfect margarita is a perfect drink. I’ve had some bad ones. But the good ones, are oh so good! Just cutting the limes – the smell of that sweet citrus takes me away. The salty rim always seems to remind me of the ocean. And then there is the tequila.

So what is a margarita anyway…

Ah, the margarita, the seemingly unbeatable king of the tequila cocktail. Starting from humble origins in Mexico badlands, this drink has risen to become the favorite beverage of suave socialites and partying sorority girls alike.

So how to explain this cocktail’s unwavering popularity? Like all good things, the key to the margarita is its simplicity. The pairing of only three easily attainable ingredients to form this magical elixir leaves endless room for customization, or for no-nonsense minimalism. Of course, at the end of the day, the reason the drink has had so much staying power is the flavor — a mix of sweet, tart, and sometimes a little salt.

Here’s my favourite from the article (though I’m not convinced on the lemon yet):

The Perfect Margarita

  • Lemon wedge, for rimming salt
  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • 2 ounces triple sec
  • 4 ounces fresh lemon juice Ice

DIRECTIONS

Use the lemon wedge to wet the rim of the cocktail glass then coat the rim in a thin layer of salt.

Combine the tequila, triple sec, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and give it an “energetic shake” to ensure you get a good head of foam. To serve, strain into the prepared cocktail glass.
